Filomena Grottola, 86, of Manassas, Virginia passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at her home. She was born July 23, 1936 in Fragagnano, Italy, a daughter of the late Leonzio Piccione and Teresa LaPorta Piccione. She and her family came to the United States in 1969 and resided in Berwick. They later moved to Kingston and in October, 2013 she moved to Virginia and resided with her daughter. Everyone referred to Filomena as Nonna and she was like a grandmother to all of her family and her grandchildren’s friends. She enjoyed playing cards and was the Queen of Scopa, an Italian card game. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Grottola, twin sister, Anna Grottola and brother Vincenzo Piccione. Surviving are her daughter, Anna Massimo; grandchildren, Marcello, Dante and Gianna Massimo; brothers, Antonio and Cosimo Piccione of Italy; nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:15 in the Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola, Kingston. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum at St Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Maher-Collins Funeral Home, 360 North Maple Avenue, Kingston.
